Project Educate: Fan SkinsHello my dear deviants! Welcome to another article in the series for Project Educate: Fan Art Week. This time well be talking about Fan Skins. As usual with the previous articles, well start with the definition.Project Educate: Fan Skins by alexandrasalas
In computing, a skin is a custom graphical appearance achieved by the use of a graphical user interface (GUI) that can be applied to specific software and websites to suit the purpose, topic, or tastes of different users. A skin may be associated with themes.
Software that is capable of having a skin applied is referred to as being skinnable, and the process of writing or applying such a skin is known as skinning. Applying a skin changes a piece of software's look and feel some skins merely make the program more aesthetically pleasing, but others can rearrange elements of the interface, potentially making the program easier to use. How did you first discover deviantART?
Wow, so much has happened since then. Well, it went something like this:
'Twas the night before the next, and all through the net,
not a creature knew of me, not even the class pet...
There's a place where the silly ends,
and before the lunacy begins
where the grass is painted orange and white
and there the artist [writer] suffers no blight...
and I said...
But soft! What light through yonder window breaks?
It is deviantart, and the artist is the sun.
Two sites diverged in vast cyberspace,
And I knew I could not travel both
And be one writer, I stood [upon my metaphoric ground]
And glanced behind as far as I could trace
To where it was lost in slow, slow growth.
...Two sites diverged in vast cyberspace
I took the one called deviantART,
and that has made all the difference.

1. What made you join deviantArt - what made you stay so long?
dA was, and still is, a revelation to me. I had no idea what it was like to be in a community run by artists, for artists. I had noticed dA mentioned on several sites, and was nonplussed by the 'deviant' part of the name. I didn't think it would be something for me. I couldn't sleep one night, and idly linked to an artist's image, that brought me here. I started browsing

Born and raised in Germany, Bianca moved to Canada in 2007. She's been happily living and crafting in Vancouver for the past few years until late 2013, when she decided to make the move back across the pond to settle in London, England for a while. She will be arriving in London in March 2014.|
Generally she likes to keep busy with artisan crafts but also enjoys digital and traditional arts whenever she finds the time and place to experiment.
Here on deviantART Bianca/MyntKat focuses mostly on Artisan Crafts. She has volunteered as a Gallery Moderator for the Artisan Crafts galleries in the past and hosted several Artisan Crafts Weeks (educational weeks dedicated to specific areas/techniques with interview, features, specials and more) as well as a few contests during her volunteer term.
