Snakes, vikings and so many colors!

Journal Entry: Sun May 12, 2013, 12:53 PM

So many news today!
Okay, first off, I have just released two new crochet patterns! :la:
The first one is a slithery snake scarf! It's really easy to make and suitable for beginners. It comes with lots of photos to illustrate each step and works up really fast.

The pattern can be found on Ravelry, on Craftsy and on Etsy!

Secondly, I completely overhauled the viking hat pattern I released last year. It's now much easier to make (especially the horns) and comes in 9 sizes from newborn to XL adult!

You can find the pattern on Ravelry, on Craftsy and on Etsy.

And lastly, I just uploaded the next lesson in my crochet tutorial video series. It's right here on youtube and this week I am showing you how to do color changes.

A Fat Rant... of sorts

Sat Dec 8, 2012, 12:13 PM

So, I rarely look at DDs anymore, for several reasons... but often one of them on the bottom of a page catches my eye and makes me click it. Today this happened to be a nude shot of a nice, plump bubble butt. After admiring the image for a while I wanted to leave a comment with my likes and dislikes of the composition... and then I made the mistake of reading the comments. :|

It's really sad to see that DDs like this turn into discussions of what is beautiful and what kind of women are deemed 'real' or 'ideal'. Those who claim they just want everyone to be treated equally are those who throw around the word 'real women' or 'real bodies' the most. As if skinny women weren't real, just a figment of our imagination, nothing more to them. But no, skinny women don't have a right to be offended, only us fatties do.

Yes, the woman on the image has a disproportionately large behind which is emphasized by the camera angle. No, she did not need everyone to jump up and defend her or proclaim how grateful they were that finally a 'real woman' was featured on a photo like this, completely forgetting that we are looking at art here.
If you want to stop the trend of so-called body-shaming, if you want women of ALL (yes, all, as in every single one, INCLUDING the skinny ones) shapes and sizes to feel accepted, maybe you should stop talking about freaking body sizes. If you want the size and shape to not matter, stop putting so much emphasis on it, stop calling skinny women out as not real or unrealistic. They exist, they are out there! Not all of them starve themselves to death and many of them have just as many body issues as the heavier ones.
Open your eyes and shut your mouth once in a while.

And all the while everyone forgets that this is an artwork posted by the artist that we are commenting on. How about giving some feedback on the art, not the model's body shape.

There, that's all. :|

Artisan Crafts History

Sun Dec 2, 2012, 10:10 AM

Hello my pets! Today I come to you with tidings of the historical kind! :P
:iconarthistoryproject: is holding an Artisan Crafts month this December! Anyone and everyone can join in and help out. Check out the project, it's an amazing community driven project and promises to be intensely interesting.

In more personal news, I am still working on my dragon scarf pattern, but am hoping to finish it soon. Just a few more details to write out, photograph and correct and then I can move on to the testing phase! It's very exciting. :D
I have started selling patterns on ravelry and etsy and I've had an amazing response in the first month. Especially the viking hat pattern is selling like hot cakes and I am loving all the love and attention it is getting. :la:

And I have decided that I will be trying to get back to dA more often. I have been so engrossed with other things in my life over the past year, I have not been able to spend much time here, but I will make an effort to change that and actually get around to being here more often... let's hope it works out! :D

Ravelry and cold dog feet

Sat Nov 3, 2012, 2:36 AM

Well, I have recently registered with ravelry.com (no idea why I've not done this sooner, I've had it bookmarked for two years or so…) and have published my first pattern there! It's for a set of small dog booties and it's free to download! You can find it right here!

If you're on Ravelry and want to connect, my username there is MyntKat (what else? ;) ). I am currently working on completing and testing two hat patterns as well as working on the dragon scarf pattern again since I finally got the safety eyes I had ordered!

And now I shall go back to working on my next dragon! Yay!

Patterning it up...

Wed Sep 12, 2012, 9:48 PM

So, I again started working on my patterns. Right now I am making a dragon scarf, writing down the pattern as I go along. Since I want to provide several different options for the facial features, it'll take me a few weeks to finish for sure, but it's coming along nicely.
I am also taking plenty of pictures to go along with the pattern, so there will be visual references to make it a little easier to follow.
After completing this, I will go through the patterns that I have worked out already (viking hat, flower hat, jelly fish hat) and crochet the hats again to take process pictures that I can work into the already typed out patterns.
Once all that is finished and I am happy with the results and have tested the patterns on my test crocheters, I will finally release them in my etsy shop! With a little luck and commitment, I might release them in late October! So excited to be working on this project again!

Back from the rain...

Sat Jul 28, 2012, 5:51 PM

I'm back from the renaissance festival... well, I've been back since Monday but didn't get around to writing a journal entry yet.
It was extremely rainy and cold this year, but we got a few sunny periods in and it was still a ton of fun, as usual!
I got to sport my new outfit which I am very very happy with. My new flower wreath is part of the outfit:

I also made new skirts and a new chemise and ordered a tailor made bodice. :D
I had to get back Monday morning (instead of staying for tear down as usual) because my tent turned out not to be water proof and we had quite the rain storm that night. I woke up completely soaked and freezing cold (yes, freeeeezing cold in the middle of July, grrrrr) and had no dry clothes left. I spent the rest of the day warming up and keeping a mild fever down. :|
Other than the rain and cold it was another fantastic year at the renfest though and I am looking forward to next year! Also celebrated my first anniversary with my pirate man (who I met at the fest last year :B ), so yeah, all around a good week. :D

It's that time of year again...

Mon Jul 16, 2012, 6:18 PM

Yup, it's time for the BC Renaissance Festival again. :D Busy preparing and getting my costume ready to go, tomorrow we'll have to grab groceries and then head off to site to be there for set-up and dress rehearsal tomorrow.
This means I won't be back at my computer until some time next week, probably Tuesday if things go as planned.

I will also be celebrating the 1 year anniversary with my pirate boy on Wednesday, very apt since we did meet at the RenFest last year. :B
So, busy and happy occasions all around! See you next week! Tada!
