Project Educate: Showcasing your Artisan CraftsThis is a comprehensive guide on how to best present your crafts and show them in their full glory. It is based on my personal experience, research and of course on my taste, so it is by no means applicable to everything or everyone and is strongly biased. I hope this helps you to get more out of displaying your crafts on dA.
This guide has three sections: Photography, Selecting a Category, Description.
Most artisans and crafters have experienced that it is difficult to display three dimensional work on a two dimensional screen. Bringing the full beauty, complexity and all around view and feel of your work to the screen is a big challenge, but there are some easy fixes.
1. Photography
Photographing your crafts is the most important part in showing it off, but it is also the biggest challenge for getting it right. Many crafters think that getting great photographs means having a studio and expensive equipment, but there are many methods of enhancing your images without

S stands for Stained Glass
Stained glass is a method of using colored glass (opaque or transparent colors) to create a glass panel. The colored glass is cut into pieces following a pattern, they are then pasted together either by the lead came method (traditional) or the tiffany foil method (modern).

S stands for Scrimshaw
Scrimshaw is the name for artwork created from the by-products of whaling and harvesting other mammals that live in the ocean. It is most commonly made out of the bones and teeth of sperm whales, the baleen of other whales, and the tusks of walruses.

This week will be full of information, interviews and features related to all the different media and techniques that are at home in the Artisan Crafts galleries.
Today we are looking at the Metal Work gallery. In the gallery description Metal Work is described as "Metal work involving the use of heat, including all blades, such as knives, swords, cutlery, etc. blacksmithing; and any kind of metal forming without the use of heat, which would include repousse/chasing/embossing and engraving; also chain mail and armor."
To show off what this gallery has to offer, I would like to highlight a few recent pieces.

I stands for Intarsia
Intarsia, from the latin work "interserere", meaning "instert", is a technique in woodworking where pieces of wood are assembled a mosaic-like piece. Often different species of wood are used to have lighter and darker colors working together, this can also be achieved by staining the wood.
Intarsia can be set into larger wood panels or stand on their own as wall ornaments or used to decorate boxes, tables, wood floors, etc.
(the term Intarsia is also used in some other artisan crafts genres, but we are sticking with woodworking today)

Every great wedding needs a great wedding cakes. Wedding cakes can be made in all kinds of flavours and designs, there's almost no limit when it comes to creating a wonderful cake.

E stands for Earrings
Earrings are a type of jewelr, meant to be work on the the ear through a piercing, typicall in the earlobe. There are many other types of ear piercings, but the lobe is the most common.
Among earrings there is a great variety of types and looks. Artists create earrings through various means, some are made from scratch, including the posts or hooks that go through the pierced hole. Others are made by attaching elements to pre-made posts or hooks or chains. Earrings can be made from a large variety of materials, the posts and hooks are typically made of metal though. Other elements can be made from wood, paper, glass, plastic and more.

N stands for Needle Felting
Needle felting is a method of sculpting wool with the help of needles. This is a dry felting method, felting needles have little barbs on the end and are extremely sharp. When poking these needles into the balled up wool, the barbs catch the scales of the fibre and tangle them together, creating a felted piece.
Intricate details and small scale sculptures can be created with this method.
