Flower Cake

I made this for 's Flowers Contest! As a judge I'm not eligible for winning any prizes, but I still wanted to join in on the fun!

This is a whole wheat chocolate cake with a strawberries and cream filling. It's covered in home made fondant, colored with food coloring (I painted the red details with food coloring as well).
The flower was painted after this stock image!

It was my first try with fondant and it was less co-operative than I had hoped. The edges of the cake are a bit untidy, but overall I'm pretty happy with it for being a first try
I had eight friends over for dinner the other day and made this cake for dessert. I wish I'd have more occasions to bake cakes, I'd love to try more cake decorating methods
